Introduction to Scratch

Class Description:

In this introductory course to computer science and programming, students use a program called Scratch to construct projects and games with code. The main goal of this course is to help young students who are new to CS understand the idea that everything on the computer is information, and begin to grasp how this information can be manipulated. All summer FUN1a courses are in-person.

9+, Proficiency in arithmetic and basic computer usage. permission of instructor.

Virtual Machine (VM)

Not Included for In-Person Classes

A Virtual Machine is a remote desktop that allows students to connect to it from anywhere. We provide VMs so that students use it during classes and to work on homework.

We provide recordings of our classes for if a student misses or needs to re-listen to a class.
Parent Support:

KTBYTE will e-mail parents with behavior and grade progess reports.

Dance Party Animation done in Scratch: This project teaches concepts like color effects and forever loop to create the background color changes.

Walking Cat Game created in Scratch: This game involves the forever loop concept, and the purpose is for the cat to follow the cursor.

Balloon Pop Game created on Scratch: This game uses mouse tracking and collision detection, which are elements that can be created in Scratch.

Brick Breaker Game created on Scratch: This project involves the concept of cloning (making copies) in Scratch, forever loop, and collision detection to see if the ball makes contact with something.

Falling Apples Game created on Scratch: This project involves the cloning of apples, collision detection, and detemining key presses to allow the cat to move around.
